Netanyahu–Trump Meeting in Florida to Focus on Gaza Truce and Broader Global Crises

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday at Trump’s vacation home in Florida, in a high-level discussion centered on the fragile truce in the Gaza Strip and wider regional and global security issues. The meeting, scheduled for 3 p.m. Brasília time, comes at a critical moment as diplomatic efforts to stabilize Gaza face ongoing obstacles.

At the heart of the talks will be the future of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. While the first phase of the truce—mediated by the United States—came into effect on October 7, it has remained unstable, with both sides accusing each other of violations. Washington, along with other mediators, is now pushing to accelerate the implementation of the second phase of the agreement in hopes of preventing a renewed escalation of violence.

The proposed next phase includes several highly sensitive measures, such as the disarmament of Hamas, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, the establishment of a transitional governing authority, and the deployment of an international force to help stabilize the territory. These points are expected to dominate the Netanyahu–Trump discussions, as they represent both political and security challenges with long-term implications for the region.

This meeting marks the fifth encounter between Netanyahu and Trump since the Republican leader returned to the White House. Beyond Gaza, the agenda is expected to include other major geopolitical issues, such as Iran’s nuclear program, the evolving situation in Syria, and efforts to disarm Hezbollah in Lebanon—topics that underscore the broader Middle East tensions shaping U.S.–Israeli relations.

The Florida meeting follows a busy diplomatic weekend for President Trump. On Sunday, he hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the same location to discuss the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. Zelensky revealed on Monday (29) that the United States had offered Ukraine security guarantees for 15 years, with the possibility of renewal, though he has pushed for a longer commitment of 30 to 50 years. Shortly after his remarks, the Kremlin confirmed that negotiations aimed at ending the conflict are in their final stages.

Trump has expressed optimism about the prospects for peace, stating on Sunday that he was closer than ever to an agreement to end the war, following his meeting with Zelensky and a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, a new conversation between Trump and Putin is expected in the coming days, while Zelensky indicated that negotiating teams from both sides should meet again next week to resolve remaining issues.

In addition, Trump has announced the possibility of hosting leaders from Ukraine and Europe in Washington in January, seeking to broaden diplomatic dialogue and build momentum toward a comprehensive resolution of the conflict.

As Netanyahu and Trump sit down in Florida, their talks will reflect a packed international agenda—ranging from the fragile ceasefire in Gaza to the future of European security—highlighting the central role diplomacy is playing in shaping multiple global flashpoints simultaneously.
